Power of Self-Talk

It’s Jenny here sharing joyful living tips with you. Today I continue with the topic of self-talk.

One of the most frequently asked questions I have from my clients is “What is self-talk?”  Other common questions include “How can I find the truth about myself?” Or, “Many times I even don’t know my feelings regarding my issues. They are too hidden, and have been invisible for too long.” So, you are not alone if you have challenges with hearing your true voice.

Everyone has this kind of little inner talk going on all the time. Most of us just don’t pay attention and give this inner voice a chance to be heard. Only when you are willing to slow down and quiet your mind will it become easy to hear your true self-talk.

Here is the key to positive inner talk:

Be aware of any time you lose peace of mind and are feeling both triggered and drained. At that moment, STOP!

Pause and Check, instead of beating yourself up and judging what’s going on right away.

Ask yourself: “What caught me? Why I am upset?”

You don’t have to have complete clarity before you start tapping. Actually, the opposite is true; tapping will let the self-talk and feelings float up, bringing you clarity.

Examples to assist in understanding self-talk Include:

1) You’ve developed a pattern of becoming distracted and continually procrastinate with finishing an important project that you should have completed awhile ago. You don’t know why.

For this example, just describe the situation using the above words. Tap and speak them out. After a couple of rounds, you might hear self-talk such as:

“I need to do it. I know it’s important to me. But I don’t feel like doing it; I even don’t know why. I just resist even being near that table. Thinking about the project itself already has me feeling overwhelmed.”

2) You’ve decided to give  EFT tapping a try.  You force yourself, sitting there tapping even though your “monkey mind” has kicked in, distracting you. Of course, there is no progress. Now you are mad at yourself.

Before you keep pushing and beating yourself up, you need to stop; check and listen. A lot is going on inside.  Listen for your true inner self-talk.

“I have too much on my plate already; I don’t have time for this. I hope I am not wasting my time doing this now. It better work, otherwise I will be upset.  I am running out of time. I doubt that it will help me.  Nothing ever helps me.”

3) You get stuck in the research mode; just can’t decide among several possible choices. Maybe your self-talk is like this:

“I am so frustrated about this decision. I don’t know where to begin and what to do. What if I fail to make the correct choice? It’s too scary, and I don’t want to move ahead. In case anything happens I will lose control, and I will fail. It will be ugly, just like the last time. I do not want to feel that pain again.”

These are the REAL VOICES. The list can go on and on. All we do with EFT tapping is listen to our real voice and respect our truth. Being guided by the inner talk, we go through an amazing procedure. It’s like peeling the layers of an onion, layer by layer until reaching its heart. Eventually, after peeling enough layers we find the root causes for our life’s issues.

In each case mentioned above, you need to notice they all have two voices inside, causing conflict. The root voice is like this:

“I want to do it, but I don’t want to do it.”

Notice that it takes Two to have a conflict. When you try to push and make what it is in your life go away;  your logical mind is fighting with your inner-self; you are participating in an internal war!

EFT tapping helps you stop this inner battle so that the “Tug of War” will end naturally. Then peace can come in; you will feel a bit at ease with yourself and with your life situation. Your energy field will open up and allow your life flow to restart. Now you come out from the place where you feel stuck and start to move forward.
